I'm a little giddy and giggly here tee hee tee hee giggle giggle giggle snort...ok, so maybe staying up all night playing on the computer isn't a bright idea, but I had some fun fiddling with the overrides for my LJ. It's a little intimidating making changes in the overrides box, I must admit - who knows what I could schmuck up, but I'm really bored with how my lj looks, so...it was time to take the plunge. From what I was reading in the [info]howto tutorials, it's basically playing with CSS, so it is kinda neat that I made it this far because none of the other CSS stuff I have looked at made any sense for me. Am I becoming an even bigger geek? So far, I'm quite pleased with the way it is starting to look, though there are a couple things I'm going to continue to work on (they might even be done by the time you read this!). I'm just trying to get it to fit in better with how my website looks and so far, I think I'm succeeding. Of course, I've only seen how it looks on my monitor, so could ya please tell me if it looks like crap on your monitor, and let me know what you think needs changing? I'm not guaranteeing it will get changed (or that I'm even able to change it, but feedback is definitely welcome. Sooo, ummm, yeah.
Back to photoediting.....

Nice layout! The image is a bit slow to load, (darn dial-up) but even before it loads, the page look fine. The only thing I don't like is how links go to all caps when you hover over them. I guess i don't like the text jumping arround on me.

Of course, i guess the image concern is a moot point, now.

I've been wondering about the links thing. I liked the general idea because it made it really obvious, but the jumping font thing irritates the hell out of me too. Part of it may have been that I wasn't listening to my own motto: Just because you CAN do it doesn't mean you SHOULD do it. I kinda went overboard on the number of overrides/modifications I put on.

I was kinda concerned about how it would load on slower machines, due to its size. I'm thinking of changing it, but may leave it until I learn how to control the size better. I'm working on it.

BUt you learned about CSS, and what not to do in the future. So it isn't all bad.

I just noticed how the contrast between a visited link in the body of a post and the background not that much. (At least on my laptop screen.) I guess lavender (if that's what it is--Mom tells me I don;t know my colors very well) and gray just are too similar in shade.

But like I said the first time--I like the layout.

Hey, did you ever see the article bu Admin about optimization? It had a link to a WEbsite timization (http://www.websiteoptimization.com/services/analyze/) thing that told you the size of everything on your page, and the approximate times a download would take on other connections. Not that you need to put that much effort into a LiveJournal, but I thought I'd pass you the link.

That I did -- learn a bit about CSS that is. And true, I did learn, but they were such noob things I should have known them anyway. Perhaps this is why I'm thinking of redoing....again. Dunno. I'm half asleep. Don't know about calling it lavender, but it's definitely a shade of purple, so lavender is close enough. For some reason, that observation your mom made seems to apply to most guys. It's the whole "peach is a fruit, not a colour" thing, I think. lol

I did indeed see the article Admin wrote about optimization. I even went so far as to bookmark it (though that won't help now lol), along with the links, but then never followed up on it. of course, that was primarily because there is a web optimization feature on Photoshop, though I haven't quite figured it out yet. I have a photoshop book that I'm slowly working my way through, so that should help me figure it out how to use it more effectively. Thanks for the link. And I don't see any reason not to put that kind of effort into an LJ, except of course that it takes me away from the other webstuff I'm working on. But the more I look at this layout, the less I like it. Urgh. But thanks for the comments :D
